  curries ummmmmmmmmm--------

  as a british family our favorite food is curry, but lately this has got out of hand, were eating about 3 a week .

  either home made or takeaway.

  when the kids were small i would always make a dinner with meat and veg, but now its gone ridiculous we are addicted.. i hate thinking about what im going to make for the evening meal, its so boring.

  Thanks for the link Angharad> It's incredible the BS they spout and amazingly the average JW will take at face value everything the WT says as truth. Look at this as a massive WT lie to it's followers:

  The WT guys were spouting the same propoganda that the "White Supremacy" people spout "It has been the commercial Jews of the British-American empire that have built up and carried on Big Business as a means of exploiting and oppressing the peoples of many nations." and now that that kind of racism is clearly not fashionable or acceptable in 1998 they try and claim that they never said it, it's all a lie. This is a good example of showing them for what they truly are: a cult.

  Also the WTS has tried to force new speak on JWs. Prefering to be called the brach instead of the society on more formal situations

  Interesting comment XQ and do you know why they are trying to force this recently?

  My guess is to remove themselves from legal liability from all the lawsuits facing the courts right now. I suspect they will now try and argue that the elders and congregations were acting on their own and (possibly) against WT policy regarding sexual abuse. This way when the hammer falls it will only fall on individual congregations. It looks to me like they think they can get all the JWs to run around saying: There is no HQ or leadership just another independant branch in Brooklyn; there are no official policies and directives handed down to congregations on major issues; congregations make up their own individual religious policies....in other words sing the new company line. My guess is this would be designed to try and create a new (false) image for the public and the courts in order to avoid responsibility and potential legal liability for their actions.

  I also notice that you mentioned the elders are now tightening the control reigns with their attitude of "You're either with us or against us". It sounds to me like they want to make sure that there is absolutely no doubt that the only ones left will sing the new company line when the time comes. It sounds to me like they don't want any surprises from a brother or a sister with a conscience when talking to the public or authorities (or testifying in court). Rather, they want only those who will stick hard and fast to the "Theocratic Warfare" policy of lying to protect the cult WT.

  Editorial Reviews Synopsis Since the end of World War II, leaders of the Jehovah's Witness movement in both Germany and elsewhere have steadfastly argued that Witnesses were united in their opposition to Nazism and did not collude with the Third Reich. Documents have been uncovered, however, that prove otherwise. Using materials from Witness archives, the U.S. State Department, Nazi files, and other sources, M. James Penton demonstrates that while many ordinary German Witnesses were brave in their opposition to Nazism, their leaders were quite prepared to support the Hitler government. Penton begins his study with a close reading of the "Declaration of Facts" released by the Witnesses at a Berlin convention in June 1933. Witness leaders have called the document a protest against Nazi persecution, however closer examination shows it contained bitter attacks on Great Britain and the United States - jointly referred to as "the greatest and most oppressive empire on earth" - the League of Nations, big business, and above all, Jews, who are referred to as "the representatives of Satan the Devil." It was later, in 1933 - when the Nazis would not accept Witness blandishments - that leader J.F. Rutherford called on Witnesses to seek martyrdom by carrying on a campaign of passive resistance.   Sorry about the double posting but the formatting was acting wierd on me I must have pressed something.

  So in actuality they do not have a controlling interest in that particular fund. As well they are only holding a couple hundred million in that fund. There are however thousands of funds and well over one hundred money market funds. WT could very well be holding interests in other funds and probably are in keeping with the rule of thumb of diversification.

  I wonder who receives any "trailer fees" from all of their massive holdings? but that is another thread topic.

  I also wonder about their choice of a J.P Morgan fund. In and of itself it does not mean anything however often corporations will select and use a banker for multiple roles and purposes. I wonder if there may be a deeper relationship beyond the ownership of the funds. My impression of J.P. Morgan is that they are the banker of choice for U.S. companies/entities/individuals who wish to do business in Europe as well and also wish to be very discreet.....but this too would be a topic for another thread.

  Excellent investigative work Gerard except one minor error:

  You highlighted the wrong section as it does not apply to the WT in this particular fund.

  If you look closely you will see that they only own 7.337 percent of the outstanding shares of that

  fund. This does not qualify as a "control position".

  If you look carefully you will notice that the fund lists persons (or entitities) that own 5 percent

  orm more. The reason for this is because it is in keeping with the "early warning" requirements in

  the regulated securities business. By giving this "early warning" shareholders are and insiders are

  able to get an idea if there is a large accumulation of ownership. This is meant to give an early

  warning to a potential takeover bid (which is highly unlikely where a money market fund is concerned.

  To continue...HQ doesn't attempt to set policy, they do set policy as dictated in the publications which eminate from HQ.
  

  As well, policy is set unilaterally as the average JW sure as heck doesn't get polled on it before it is released for their thought and opinions.In any event, as you said the branches only "tailor" <----- these are your words. Tailoring and setting (core belief) policy are two massively different things.

  Additionally, while latitude is permitted by WT HQ for regional purposes, the HQ closely monitors the latitude for the reaons spelled out already in this thread to promote unity. Only the bare minimum latitude is allowed and it is closely controlled through the District and Circuit Overseers who report to WT HQ.

  Your statement about Branch policies being confidential I find unbelievable. WT HQ has always monitored this through the DAs and COs. The notion that they would allow Kingdom Halls to act independantly with little or no accountability (especially since HQ provides the mortgage on the Kingdom Halls) is nonsensical. Who are you trying to fool ? Those service records that you fill out, are you telling me that they never go beyond the elder's eyes ?

  If I am wrong on this I will gladly apologize as I have been critical but I am of the impression that you are looking at your JW religion through some rose colored glasses.

  I am sorry XQ but you are contradicting yourself here:

  The corporate HQ in NY is a whole other outfit. They attempt to set unilateral policy or doctrinal trends and claim to be the "offical" HQ.

  The branches are the ones that act like indepentdant fiefdoms tailoring the JW belief to local laws or customs

  Although #5 comes close - it was more like every 2 years. You didn't have a category for this one. The one who visited my ex's congregation was "Brother who has a pedophile son who molests 5 year old girls for years and get's away with it because parents trust their children to him as a sitter and then after the harm is done just walk away from it leaving it to Jehovah"
